WHAT TO DO IN THE CASE OF A GAS LEAK

What to Do in the Case of a Gas Leak

It is important to properly respond to every incident. If a fuel gas alarm sounds, you smell gas, or otherwise suspect a leak, treat it as an emergency and do the following:

  • Put out all smoking materials and other open flames.

  • Do not operate lights, appliances, telephones, or mobile phones.

  • Leave the area immediately, and get everyone else out of the area.

  • Shut off the gas at the tank or main supply valve if it’s safe to do so.

  • Report the leak once you’re safely evacuated by calling ICP at (208)983-0597. If you can’t reach them, call 911.

  • Do not return to the building or area until the fuel gas provider or emergency responders say it’s safe to do so.

  • Don’t turn the fuel gas supply back on until it’s been inspected by a qualified person.
